Choosing Your First Office for Your Business and Staff.

If you’re running your own business, chances are, you’ve started out working from home, taking on the bulk of the work yourself. This is understandable and how the majority of businesses start out. Working in this way keeps your outgoings low and also helps you to maintain control over your company and its operations. But eventually, when customers start taking interest in your products and services, placing orders and generally generating demand and profits, you’re going to have to take on a team to help you keep everything up and running. Then, you’re going to need to provide them with somewhere to work from. Of course, throughout the course of the pandemic, remote work has become more popular and common, so this is always an option. But if you want your staff to work from a commercial premises like an office, you’re going to have to take a few steps to create a good working environment for them. Here are some areas to focus on to ensure you achieve this!

Choosing a Premises

There are plenty of commercial premises out there for you to choose from, but you can’t just settle on the first building you find. Instead, you need to consider various factors when choosing the best office space possible. First, consider location. Sure, options that are closer to public transport links or that are in city centres tend to be more expensive. But this is for a reason. Having an easily accessible office will broaden your scope when it comes to choosing staff members to join your team, as more people will be able to actually make it to work in your office. Choosing somewhere inconvenient can rule out people who rely on public transport. Once you’ve chosen a location, view all offices in the area. This will give you a chance to check out their condition, size and other important factors.

Consider Parking

For people who want to drive into the office, you’re going to have to ensure that there’s parking. Making your staff rely on paid parking spaces can, again, put people off joining your company. Nobody wants to spend their earnings on parking at work each day. Instead, look for somewhere with some sort of staff parking and safety features like traffic calming measures, CCTV and more. This will give staff confidence leaving their car in the carpark.

Furniture

You’re going to need to invest in furniture for staff to work from. This may include desks, office chairs and other additional accessories, such as back rests, foot rests and more. When choosing your office furniture, try to make sure that you use ergonomically designed options. This can ensure your staff have good posture while working and can prevent injuries such as repetitive strain injuries.

Natural Light

You should try to choose a space with plenty of natural light. Sure, artificial lights can brighten a space, but natural light impacts people’s circadian rhythms, helping to promote productivity in the workplace.

Of course, there are other areas to take into consideration when creating an office space for your staff to work from, but those highlighted above should serve as a good start!
