The backhanded logic that we all want the job of our dreams but don’t want to do the work for it is almost comical. No matter whether you’re studying for an exam or completing a dissertation, it’s all too easy to slip into a routine of procrastination. So much so that you find yourself liking memes on Instagram about procrastination. Well, it’s time to stop!

Use your devices to help you
If you’ve got a smartphone or watch (which let’s face it, you probably do), then use it to help set yourself reminders! If you’ve got a large workload, set a reminder to move onto other high priority tasks. Not only that, but changing what you’re doing decreases the chance of you getting bored and procrastinating.
Reward yourself
Set yourself little goals to achieve and reward yourself for it! A personal favourite of ours is lining up a chocolate bar between pages of a textbook.
Take short regular breaks away from your work station
Staring at a screen or book for too long can promote tired eyes and therefore halt your workflow. Standing up and taking short 5 minute breaks from your desk will help revive your mind and help to keep stress levels down. Some people also use things like CBD and CBG gummies for relief during these breaks to help them reset before getting back to work.
Use lists
One of the best ways of making a chunk of work look more manageable is by making a list of everything you have to do and prioritising certain tasks. You’ll soon notice a more ideal way of working and it suddenly won’t look so daunting anymore.
Clear your desk
A cluttered desk isn’t going to do you any favours. Remove the empty energy drink cans and crumpled up bits of paper and create a workspace that will encourage creativity and learning. Plus, if you like the space you’re working in, you’re more likely to actually sit down and work, right?
Put down the booze…for now
While it might be tempting to pour yourself a glass of wine or crack open a cold one, alcohol isn’t going to help your mental processes. Save the booze for nights out with your friends and not the night before a big exam.
Utilise ‘DO NOT DISTURB’
Pretty much everyone is in some sort of group chat these days, and while it’s great to have a natter with your friends, it can be the biggest source of procrastination. Put your phone on DO NOT DISTURB and leave it across the other side of your room so that you’re not tempted.
Consider studying with a friend/classmate
A problem shared is a problem halved, and that can count for studying too! Sometimes having someone with a new perspective around can really help prevent going off track. Just be sure to find someone that’s not going to distract you more from studying!
Remember the big picture
Much like losing weight, sometimes having a visual representation of your end goal can help stay on track with your school work. Try and remind yourself daily on why you’re doing this and what your dream is and that should be enough to spur you on!
Get on with it!
Finally, without being too blunt about it, man (or woman) up and get on with it! It’s time to adult for real now! You CAN do this!
